I enjoyed my school years growing up as a child. Starting in
fifth grade I began to play the saxophone and participate in band. I enjoyed
playing the saxophone but found myself discouraged quite often because I was
not learning as fast as I thought I should. When I started high school I joined
the marching band. The marching band was a big step for me because it required
a lot of commitment outside of school hours and two weeks out of summer break
to begin practicing for the football season. There were many times I wanted to
quit because of the time and effort involved but my mother never let me quit.
The experience of marching band and not quitting still encourages me to stay
committed to a project or activity because the prize at the end will be worth
it.
